Students can feel safe and comfortable at Colorado State. Security procedures are in place throughout campus. In fact, Colorado State was ranked the fifth safest school in the west, according to "Crime at College: The Student's Guide to Personal Safety" (1994). Money Magazine (1998) named Fort Collins as one of the 20 safest cities in the U.S.
All exterior residence hall doors, with the exception of the main entrance and food service delivery doors, are locked 24-hours a day. Specific hours when the main entrance door is unlocked varies from hall to hall based on the specific needs and programs in each hall.
CSUPD has 21 full-time certified officers, 20 campus service officers, and 12 part-time student officers who have received police academy and field training. Maximum emergency response time is 120 seconds.
